The Supremes: Why Republicans Are So Angry About the Leak

One of the biggest stories in the news recently has been the leak of a confidential Supreme Court decision before its public release date. Conservatives are outraged that this document was made public and have been quick to pin the blame on Democrats, who voted in favor of releasing it. However, according to one Washington Post article, there may be more to this story than what conservatives would like people to believe. Here’s why Republicans are so angry about the Supreme Court leak and what it could mean for their party going forward...

Who leaked?

Justice Kennedy was reported to have been deeply frustrated at recent meetings of President Obama’s Supreme Court nominees. The source of these leaks is Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC). I think it’s highly irresponsible for somebody on our side to leak that, Graham said. There will be hell to pay if we find out that somebody did that.

Who was identified?

The author of Trump’s List isn’t identified, but it appears to be a former member of President Trump’s staff. Axios said it did not name that person out of concern for their safety, citing conversations with several people familiar with how such lists circulate among White House staff.

What does it mean for the Russia investigation?

The revelation that Justice Department official Bruce Ohr had contacts with Christopher Steele—the former British spy who authored a dossier of allegations about Donald Trump’s relationship with Russia—has set off a new round of speculation among Trump critics. It certainly raises questions about whether or not there was improper influence from high-ranking officials within our government on Fusion GPS, which commissioned Steele to research Trump during his campaign for president.

Does this prove Mueller is an anti-Trump team?

Yes, it absolutely does. The big question on a lot of people’s minds is does Mueller have evidence that Trump colluded with Russia and obstructed justice? Well, without looking at his information (which obviously would be unethical), it’s possible to make an educated guess based on what we know so far. And yes, as I laid out in my other piece, there is certainly evidence of collusion. But there isn’t enough yet to prove obstruction.

Is all of Trump's communications at risk?

The biggest question in Washington right now is whether we've reached a Watergate-level crisis. The short answer is yes. This isn't just about Trump, or even just about his administration. All of our communications may be at risk — at least for a while.
